Matt
Bellamy of Muse was thrilled that the makers of big-budget zombie action flick
World War Z chose two of his band’s songs to feature on the soundtrack – with his
son’s heartbeat featuring on both tracks.
The proud dad, who has a son named
Bingham with Hollywood star Kate Hudson, explained his happy coincidence on the
red carpet of the film’s world premiere in London’s Leicester Square on
Sunday.
‘I had a baby just before we made
the album and I recorded my son’s heartbeat in utero a few days before he was
born,’ he said, adding that he was actually reading the novel version of World
War Z during the album-making process.
‘The heartbeat sound is now the
base of two songs and those were the two songs that they picked. I’m not sure
if my son’s heartbeat had anything to do with being in a zombie film. It’s
pretty far out!’
Little Bingham Bellamy can be heard
beating his own rhythm on Olympic theme tune Survival and The 2nd Law:
Isolated System, both of which were used for the Brad Pitt flick’s soundtrack.
The zombie thriller is not the
first time Muse have had their music attached to a major film release, as they
also appeared on the soundtrack to the Twilight movies.
‘They liked to get dramatic
music,’ Matt said of providing a tune for the Twilight trailers.
‘We thought that was going to be a
small indie film, but it turned out to be huge. This we knew would be big
because they asked us to score the film and we weren’t available but we
collaborated and are glad to have got the song in.’
