Pixie Lott talks duets, Selena, and meeting Justin Bieber

Pixie Lott reckons Justin Bieber still carries a flame for his ex Selena Gomez after they shared their appreciation for the fellow singer in Monaco earlier this year.

Lott hung out with the Biebs – who has had an on-off relationship with Gomez since 2010 – after she performed at the Grand Prix and they found themselves gushing over the American beauty.

‘When I was in the South of France I bumped into Justin Bieber and we were both talking about how elegant and beautiful she is,’ 23-year-old Lott revealed.

Hinting that she may have something of a girl-crush on 20-year-old Bieber’s ex, the Nasty singer continued: ‘I think she is so lovely and beautiful. She is really talented.’

She also said she would love to reunite with Gomez, 22, for a pop duet having sung with her on a track back in 2011.

‘Selena recorded a song I had written and she left my parts in on the middle eight so it ended up being Selena Gomez featuring Pixie Lott,’ Lott explained.

‘There are lots of boy-girl duets but there isn’t as many girl-girl ones. One of my favourite songs is The Boy Is Mine by Brandy and Monica. I’ve always said I’d love to team up with another girl for a girl power track,’ she said.

Lott is currently romping her way up the album charts with her self-titled third record which has entered the Top 10 in the mid-week charts.

‘It is really exciting that it is No. 8 at the moment as my last album was out at a tricky week and its position didn’t do as well as this one has done – so I’m really over the moon about that,’ she said at her album launch at London’s Langham hotel on Tuesday night.

Pixie Lott guns for TV matchmaking show

Pixie Lott is impressed Cheryl Fernandez-Versini tied the knot after just a few months of dating – when marriage isn’t even on the cards for her and boyfriend of four years Oliver Cheshire.

The 23-year-old pop beauty reckons Chez Fe-Vez, 31, has her ideal picture of marriage set in her head after she got it wrong with Ashley Cole first time around.

‘Maybe she just knows that it’s right? Every situation is different for different people. Maybe she just wants to settle down and have babies,’ Lott told Guilty Pleasures.

However the Kiss The Stars singer admitted she wasn’t yet considering taking the plunge with her 26-year-old model beau but is quite a good matchmaker.

‘I set one of my best friends, Carla, up with my other friend Oss,’ she explained.

‘I had a song called Broken Arrow and Ossian is the boy in the video I do the dance partner work with. We were already friends at school but then we met up again through the video and we became good friends again.

‘Then it was Carla’s birthday so I told him to come down and they got on like a house on fire.

‘Two weeks after I was on tour and booked them both to be dancers so they were together every day on tour and now they’ve been together for four years.’

Lott, whose new single Lay Me Down is out a week on Sunday is so confident about her Cupid abilities she thinks she should be commissioned to bring love alive.

‘I should have a TV show. I could bring together on tour – it’s worked in the past. I could match-make people in the crowd,’ she laughed.

Pixie Lott: I used stick on bra to avoid 'wardrobe malfunction'

Pixie Lott was left in a mad panic on Wednesday night when she realised the elegant white gown she wore to the Brit awards was see-through.

The 23-year-old pop babe had to make a mad dash to find some equipment to help keep her assets concealed.

‘We had a bit of trouble because it is so see through and I tried everything. Nipple petals, the tit tape, and then last minute I had to rush out and get a stick on bra,’ she told Metro.

‘It is backless and you can’t just wear it with your boobs hanging out. But the stick on bra keeps everything in place,’ she winked.

However the gorgeous Londoner says she doesn’t live in fear of nipple slips.

‘I’m quite laid back so I don’t live in fear of wardrobe malfunctions – although obviously I don’t want them to happen. If you can try and avoid it, that’s good,’ she said.

Pixie Lott on new single Nasty

Pixie Lott says she is ready to smash her way back into the charts as she prepares to debut her brand new single on live TV on Thursday night.

The pop babe – who turns 23 this Sunday – also says her boyfriend Oliver Cheshire, 25, has made it easy for her to write and record music about love on her upcoming third album.

‘It’s my first time writing from the actual experience of being in a relationship. It has really helped,’ the blonde beauty told Guilty Pleasures in an exclusive chat, adding she has found writing from the heart easy to do.

‘I can relate to every aspect of what I’m singing – the good times and the bad times. I love writing about things that I experience. It makes songs greater,’ she said.

And while Lott certainly has beauty and music talent in spades, it would seem her model boyfriend only has one of these two qualities.

‘Oliver can’t sing! He tries. He thinks he is a bit of a DJ and he loves music, but he’s not really a singer. We’ve never even done karaoke. Will he be stealing my thunder? No!’ she laughed.

The singer will be performing her new single – titled Nasty – on the Brits are Coming on ITV on Thursday night as the nominees for the 2014 Brit Awards are unveiled.

‘It’s a funky, soulful track that is very up-tempo and fresh,’ she says of the single – which she also revealed she had to fight for after it was originally recorded (but ultimately rejected) by Christina Aguilera, sparking a bidding frenzy among her music contemporaries.

‘A few other singers had recorded it and Christina was one of them so everyone wanted this song. When I heard other singers had done it I thought “I need to get this!” It was a difficult song to get because there are so many old-school samples on it, like James Brown, that are hard to clear copyright on. But I got it and now it is my new single.’

Pixie Lott

20-year-old Pixie Lott is something of a triple threat having released music (her debut album “Turn It Up” sold in excess of one million copies), starred in a feature film (Fred: The Movie) and designing clothes for Lipsy (now in her second year with the fourth collection out now for Christmas). Returning to the charts earlier this year with number one hit “All About Tonight”, today Lott releases the second single, “What Do You Take Me For” ahead of her second album “Young Foolish Happy”. We ask her about her album’s new sound, her musical collaborations and fall foul of the ultimate spanner in journalistic research – Wikipedia.

Describe your music in five words;
Soulful, fresh, fun, emotional, mature

How Young were you when you first kissed someone?
Maybe 12? We used to go to these under 18 nights which were called Capital VIP and they were all over the place at different venues and I used to love them. There would be loads of under 18s and you would meet each other and kissed. So my first kiss was with one of those Capital VIP boys.

What’s the most Foolish thing you’ve done?
I went on holiday this year with two of my best friends to Greece and one night I tattooed someone’s leg – and it was a permanent tattoo. It actually went really well. I wrote my name. Maybe not so foolish for me but maybe for him.

What makes you Happy?
Lot’s of things. My friends and family, laughing, going on holiday, being on stage, performing, Christmas, sunshine – everything.

Your new album is called Young Foolish Happy and features a number of collaborations – Pusha T (What Do You Take Me For), Marty James (Dancing On My Own), Tinchy Stryder (Bright Lights (Good Life) Part II), John Legend (You Win) and Stevie Wonder (Stevie On The Radio) – that is an amazing mix of people!
It is quite random, but it is amazing. Stevie Wonder is my all time favourite so that was incredible just to meet him so I was really happy. We have a feel good kind of throwback track and he plays harmonica which all happened through a mutual friend – the same with John Legend, really. Marty is an American artist and I wrote and recorded a track with him and Tinchy has a song on his album which I sang on which I really liked and then I wrote my own versus and a chorus and put that on my album.

You’re new single – with Pusha T – is called “What Do You Take Me For” and there is a bit of product placement in the video – a Citron – did you get a free car?
[laughs] No. I can’t actually drive. My new year’s resolution was to pass my test – [sarcastically] it’s going really well– I want to try and do it before the year is out. The Citron has also made an appearance in my Broken Arrow video from last year. I have a love for Citrons.

What is going on with your acting career?
I was in Fred [The Movie] last year, which is family viewing –

And you’re doing something else now, right?
No.

What? But Wikipedia says you’re in a film.
Does it say “Baby Jesus”?

Yes.
Yeah. I’ve been asked about this in loads of interviews but I actually have nothing to do with it. We were in talks with the people but that was it and I don’t think the film is even happening. But the news got out, but I don’t have any info on it.

You were a guest judge on The X Factor last summer, were you considered for the panel of this years’ show?
I don’t think so – at least I wasn’t asked – but I think the panel is really good and it’s spiced the show up a bit and I think it’s very entertaining. As for the contestants, I think Craig is really good and I think Mischa is great – I watched her Rolling in The Deep on YouTube and it’s fantastic. And I liked Johnny! He was so funny.

Which other musicians do you admire?
I went to see Rihanna at the O2 and she was really amazing. I don’t know how she does it! She was out the night before and I was thinking “if I did that, I couldn’t get on stage!” and when she sang “Cheers” she said “cheers and did a shot” and again I was like “if I did that I wouldn’t be able to hit my notes!” She is impressive.
